Capital One Arena Rules
For all events, Capital One Arena utilizes walk in metal detectors to ensure safety at all times.
Bag Policy
In general, Capital One Arena upholds a strict no-bag policy. While bags and purses are generally not allowed, small items and essential medical or parenting bags within specific dimensions are permitted, subject to a security check.
Bags must be smaller that 13 inches long x 9.5 inches tall x 6 inches wide. All will be searched upon arrival.
Camera Policy
Guests are allowed to bring in a point and shoot and SLR type cameras, however video recording is strictly prohibited.
Therefore, no video cameras are allowed, this includes; Camcorders, Go Pros and Contours. Recording equipment such as Monopods, Tripods and Selfie Sticks are also not allowed into the venue.
Camera policy is subject to change determined on the individual events. Please read up and make yourself aware of the policies before attending.
Photography enthusiasts attending Capitals, Wizards, and Hoyas games can capture moments with point-and-shoot or SLR cameras. Video recording devices and extendable accessories like selfie sticks are not permitted. Policies for concerts and special events may vary, so it’s a good idea to check the specific rules for each event you attend.
As bags and equipment are inspected, the same goes for Media guests with access to restricted areas who must produce a photo ID.
Prohibited items at Capital One Arena
Before entering, all guests and their vehicles may be subject to a security screening. This may include a visual search or metal detection.
- Prohibited items at Capital One Arena include:
- Weapons of any kind
- Outside food and beverages
- Metal or glass drink containers
- Any illegal substance
- Laser pointers/pens
- Large umbrellas
- Tripods and selfie sticks
- Flagpoles
- Devices used to capture video or sound
- Noise-making devices like whistles or air horns
- Any animals except for those assisting spectators

Smoking Policy
Inside the Capital One Arena is a smoke-free and vape-free zone. However, there are designated areas outside for those who wish to smoke while respecting other guests. Look for signs to official smoking areas during your visit.
Food & Drink Policy
Food and drinks brought outside the Capital One Arena will not be allowed in, guests may bring one empty water bottle per person to fill up when required.
Alcohol sales are carefully managed during games, and re-entry is regulated to maintain a secure environment.
