Nigerian singer-songwriter Wizkid released his debut album, Superstar, in 2011, followed by his sophomore effort, Ayo, in 2014. Both albums were released via the independent record label Empire Mates. By 2017, Wizkid made his breakthrough when he released his third effort, Sounds from the Otherside. The album debuted at number 2 on Billboard’s World Albums chart, five on the Heatseekers Albums, and 46 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. The album performed moderately on the mainstream chart, Billboard 200, peaking at number 107. Besides the U.S., Wizkid’s third album charted in five other countries. Wizkid’s groundbreaking work with Songs from The Other Side earned him numerous accolades, including winning Best R&B/Pop Album at the Headies, a prestigious Nigerian music award.
In 2020, Wizkid, who was born in Lagos, Nigeria, named his fourth effort, Made in Lagos. The critically-acclaimed album features guest artists like Burna Boy, Skepta, H.E.R., Ella Mai, and many more. He later earned his first Grammy Award nomination for Best Global Music Album for his work with Made in Lagos.
Wizkid is recorded to be the most-awarded African artist. He has won numerous awards, including three Billboard Music Awards, A Grammy Award for featured performance in Beyonce’s “Brown Skin Girl,” three iHeart Radio Music Awards, two MTV Europe Music Awards, four NAACP Image Awards, and many more.
