A relatively unknown rock band, Aerosmith, from Boston formed in 1970, but they would go on to greatly impact their genre and ultimately become its dominant force. Their sound is rooted in blues and hard rock but also features prominent glam and heavy metal undertones.
With over 150 million records sold worldwide, Aerosmith have become one of the best selling bands of all time, and over 85 million records were sold in the United States alone. They have the record for the most total certifications by an American group (25 gold, 18 platinum, and 12 multi-platinum albums), as well as the most multi-platinum albums by an American group. With stats like that, it is easy to see why, people also call them "America's Greatest Rock and Roll Band."
Tom Hamilton and Joe Perry initially formed a band that would become known as the Jam Band. It wasn't until 1970 that they hooked up with Ray, Kramer, and Tyler to form Aerosmith. Before seeing any kind of commercial success, they would have to put in the work and wait another five years.
After releasing Toys in the Attic (1975) and Rocks (1976), the band became widely known as a prominent rock band. They even toured heavily and had multiple hits that made the top 40 and top 10 singles charts in the US throughout the '70s.
The early 80s were a hard time for the band, as they seemed to have lost their spark owing to changing consumer tastes and drug abuse within the band. It wasn't until 1986, when they worked with the rap group Run-D.M.C. on a remake of "Walk This Way," and 1987, when they released the multi-platinum album Permanent Vacation, that they got back on track.
They have featured in films such as Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and The Simpsons, as well as videogames, that include Revolution X and Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.
Their extensive touring has come to an end with this, their final tour, bringing their total to forty-three. You can expect this one concert to be an absolute monster of a show, and the band will be pulling out all the stops, including bringing along special guests, The Black Crowes. You must be there, so be sure to grab your tickets on this site before someone else beats you to them.
