English musician and songwriter Peter Gabriel entered the mainstream as the original lead singer of the band Genesis. In 1975, the band and Gabriel would part ways, and at this point, Peter launched what has now become a very successful solo career.
His first single, “Solsbury Hill,” became a top 20 hit in the UK, making its way to number 13 before climbing all the way to number 68 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1977. He wrote the song after having a spiritual experience, and Gabriel has said the song's meaning is about letting go of things you hold now for what you might gain on the other side, which meant a lot to him as he left Genesis.
The man has had one of the most colorful careers in the industry, winning a plethora of uncountable awards such as 6 Grammy Awards, 13, MTV Video Music Awards, 3 Brit Awards, just to name a few. He was also named a BMI icon at the 57th installment of the BMI Awards.
He is also a human rights activist, and in 2006, the Nobel Peace Prize laureates gave him the Man of Peace award in recognition of his philanthropy. In 2008, Time Magazine dubbed him one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
With a new album titled I/O, Peter Gabriel, in a very novel way, will be releasing a new song from the album on the new moon of every month, giving the fans even more reason to be excited.
